Does vacuum line diameter matter?

I replaced my vacuum hoses a few weeks ago in my 945T with line that had an inner diameter somewhat smaller than the original Volvo 4.2mm (~0.165") lines. The little spring clamps fit, but with less clamping force since the outder diameter is also less.

In my brain, the vacuum will stay the same -- there's just less air making up the volume at that pressure.

Can this affect anything?
