I've heard several others report not being able to reset using the 5-second timed presses. Could be something simple as a dirty switch, but I've found a sure method is to remove main power from the ECU for a minute. On your '90, you should be able to accomplish that quickly by pulling the 25A blade fuse just fore of the code box.
