My 85 240ti is the same,I guess when thay added the water cooled to the turbo that was te easyest way to run the water lines.Is your system presurized? About a month ago I had a small leak from the fan thermostat that was very hard to find.Lost most of the pressure that you need for proper cooling.You may have air in the system causing the over heating,but this is just a guess. Charlie
