The solution to the twitching tach 700 1989

Ringlee,

It turns out the PO put in a power stage that the parts store guy had laying around. It was used and it certainly looked it. The big aluminum hit sink bit on the back looked different than the pictures I saw of the correct power stage for this model. When I took it off a few days ago and cleaned the contacts, I noticed the heat sink said "Saab" on the backside - hmm... So, I replace that Friday afternoon and so far I've put over 100 miles on it with no signs of bad behavior. So, (knock on wood) I'm hoping this will be the start of lots of trouble-free driving. Just goes to show you that you're always taking a chance trying to fix something with a used part.
