Mine ticks too - it always has (285,000 miles). I sometimes wondered if I was just confusing it with the kind of ticking/purring noise that the injectors make.
I wouldn't risk playing with additives - ordinary oil changed frequently, filter change at every other oil change, is what keeps these engines going.
