Your cam bearing bores are part of the head, most machine shops will try to straighten the casting as much as possible to avoid misalignment of the cam bearing bores. If the head is bowed .024" so are the cam bearing bores, you could end up with a fatigue fractured camshaft and not know why.
BTW I saw this happen several years ago not on a Volvo though.
