Hi,
Thanks for your helpful suggestions. Yesterday I decided it was time to dig in and get this fixed! I went to the trunk, pulled the spare, and removed the cover over the left cluster of lights. I put the key in the ignition and turned it to the run position and shifted the car into reverse. Please note the motor was not running and the parking brake was on. I also suggest chocking the tires - safety first!
I went back to the trunk and wiggled the wire connection which is a diagnostic habit I developed from messing with my old VWs. I saw the backup lights flash! To make a long story short, I figured out which ones fed the reverse lights by looking at the circuit board. The fix was to open up the plastic connector that gangs the wires together. I removed the wire and closed the gap on the "c" connector that makes contact with the male counterpart on the circuit board. The connection is now solid and dependable.
After the kids went to bed I went out to the driveway to test them out (remember that they have not worked sense I owned the car) and I was amazed at how bright they are!
Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris
