The gear in the odometer has a history of breaking a tooth- many times because of using the trip odometer and in particular resetting the trip odometer while the car is in motion. Replacement gears are available: (http://www.odometergears.com/)

Replacement requires the removal of the instrument cluster and after extracting the speedometer from the cluster it must be opened up to reveal the bad gear.
