That's the exact same symptom that mine '87 240 Wagon had when the FPR blew. It would be worth your while to check it. Try disconnecting the vacuum line and checking for gas. Hook up a handheld vacuum pump ($30 at many autoparts stores) to the vacuum nipple and try and hold 25"HG on it. I'm not assuring you that the problem is the Fuel Pressure Regulator, but there's a reasonable chance that it is.
