740 rough engine 700 1988

Hi;
I have an 88 740GLE. Last week I started it up and it was running rough. It has continued to run rough throughout the week.
I checked all the hoses for leaks, including vacuum, gas, etc. I checked the spark plugs / wires/ cap/ etc. Although about two years old and showing signs of wear nothing seemed to be a problem. I checked the timing and it was ok. I don't think it is a clogged filter or anything like that. I'm running out of ideas.

The car starts right up and idles fine, but as soon as the rpms rise you can hear and feel the engine idling rough.

Someone please help me!
