As Don says, all may be well after swapping around wiring plugs. A tiny screwdriver will help release the plug terminals from the plastic. You should see the tiny locking ears on the terminals.
I would make absolutely certain the ground wires are in good shape as well. Corroded terminals will cause electrons to seek alternate, and sometimes unexpected, routes.
