Dash cap installation 1800 1967

Hi Guys!
I'm new to the forum and have a question about the dash cap. My p1800 has a detoriated dash, so I have the choice between a complete new one (lots of bucks) or installing the caps. So the question is: what is the quality of the caps, does it show in the end that they've been put over the dash? Or should I save the money and wait untill I can afford a full replacement?
