Yes you don't need the key to remove the cylinder. There are a number of little tumblers in the lock barrel, which all have a small spring. They're not suppossed to be able to fall out, but do if the lock gets really worn or someone has got creative. Just make sure they don't ping out.

The key number will be stamped on rhe lock barrel
