Jumping a fuse means to bridge across it with a piece of wire (often called a "jumper lead" or "jumper wire" or "clip lead"). This creates an electrical path (current path) in parallel with the normal electrical path created by the fuse. If the fuse is bad, then the circuit will again be powered (but watch for sparks, smoke, and fire!!).

If you jump two fuses (such as jumping fuse 5 to fuse 7 or fuse 4 to fuse 6 to run the fuel pump), you create a circuit between these two fuses -- by using a jumper lead.

Years ago, when the fuel pump relay in my old '82 failed, I JUMPED fuse 5 to 7 using a paper clip and drove 25 miles home. Then I resoldered the relay and drove the car another 10 years 'til it died of advanced, chronic rust.
