Possibly the "new" AMM was better able to cope with a failing Oxygen Sensor, which has gotten beyond coping with? Do you know how many miles are in the sensor?
On 2nd thought, I doubt a bad sensor would cause a complete shut down.
But I had that same symptom once, which would go away after reseating the AMM connector. Only happened a couple of times after the 1st event.
