I agree with Phil, use a blunt object to push the seal in place, no glue, no lubricant, silicone is the spawn of the devil.
Personally I use a Snap On nose picking tool. Put one edge og the rubber in the U shaped channel, press the other side in.
However personally I'd start from the top, you really need to get the 90 degree bend just right, and that's nigh on impossible starting from the bottom.
On the trunk seal I use superglue, bit at a time, no mess, strong bond, sheer perfection.
