Be careful, lest you kill your alternator! 140-160 1973

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your help. You are right - I do want to be able to use the big switch to kill the engine as well as cut power to everything. This is needed in most race/rally classes so that the engine can be killed and all electrics isolated in the event of a crash. Maybe these guys just fry the alternator in the emergencies?

How do you go about isolating the field in a one wire alternator? I think mine has a big wire for the current, and (probably) as small one that feeds the tach or the alternator warning light. Is it the warning light wire that can be used to disconnect the field in microseconds? If so, that's probably what the SW2 does.

Regards

JohnH
