stuck trunk latch 700 1989

Okay, I played around with it a little more.

If I lock the trunk, with the key or the power lock, the level pushes in all the way without unlatching the trunk (as usual).

If I lock the trunk with the power lock while I have the lever pushed in, it gets stuck in until I unlock it.

Pushing on the trunk while I try opening it / unlocking it doesn't do any good -- there's no play, the trunk lid doesn't really push down any. :(

If I drill out the lock cylinder, will that free the latch mechanism? At this point, I'm out of ideas...
