I just took a look at a spare visor & grabhandle I have- the visor mounting-bolts protrude about 1/4 inch beyond the gimbal... and the mounting-bolts for the grabhandles are about 1/3 again longer than that. So clearance shouldn't be a problem. As far as being substantial, it's strong enough for the handles, so I would think it would be OK...
