Resolder the OD relay.

$0, 15 minutes, no risk, clean 'n easy work. If it helps nothing, you're out nothing. Also resolder your fuel pump and radio suppression relays.

"...a mechanic who flushed the tranny then promptly said it was the solenoid.
And wants 450 bucks to fix it..."

Time for a new mechanic.
