Ah, it is the castellated nut at the bottom that gets torqued, not the adjuster (it's been about 2 years since reading this part of the manual). First have the adjuster roughly set so that there is no backlash in the worm gear (steering shaft). Then torque the castellated nut on the pitman arm to 135 lb ft and lock it in position. While turning the steering lock to lock, check at intermediate places for play, reducing it to a minimum with the adjuster.
Also from my manual: as long as the seals are intact, the steering box can be concidered as lubricated for life. Play in the steering is more likely due to bub bearings that the steering box.
