Automatic transmissions: how long do they live?

That transmission should last as long as a properly cared for B230F.

Trouble points include the tailshaft bushing and seal (typically go around 200k miles), pinholes in the cooling line (at the clamps on support brackets), and occasionally the OD solenoid wire.

The bushing and seal can be replaced in 1-2 hours using the "official" tool or 3-4 hours by removing the tailshaft housing.

Leaks in the cooling lines can be repaired using good quality fuel hose and clamps -- and failure can be prevented with a few small tricks.

The wire to the solenoid can be repaired when it chafes through.
