Mine's head-to-engine, threads-outboard as well--because I turned it around. Works either way. Sounds like you're planning to mount the switch using that bolt? Should work nicely. You'd know better than me how much to worry about the switch's durability, but my only concern would be the pummeling it would take from the elements...
