My biggest frustration with my 244 Volvo has been the lighting. Especially the rear lighting. I replaced my circut boards with some from bcmcgregor on ebay. They were obviously aftermarket, and not OEM. I then used a wire brush (batt disconnected) on all my contacts and bulb holders and I used some bulb gue. Then the smartest thing I ever did was yank the dash cluster and pull the "bulb out" and shift light bulbs. They are in my bulb box if I ever need them.
Yes, I own a Volvo - I cary a vast supply of spare bulbs, relays, switches, fuses, electrical tape (two colors), bulb holders, wire connectors and a set of connector crimpers. When the trooper pulls me over, as they always do, once a year for some light being out, after talking about highway safety for a bit, we always go to the trunk where I proudly show him my bulb box. It is an old plastic Hot Wheels car box my son out grew. All troopers (so far) are quite impressed with my commitment to lighting safety. Once a month my son and I do PMCS on the lights. We check them regularly! Yes, I'm a Volvo Man!
Now I know some of you people that live in various People's Republics like Taxachusetts and Canada can't do those crazy things without a hall pass from Chairman Mao. So check your local laws first before tinkering.
Disclaimer: I am not bcmecgregor on ebay or anyone related to him other than a former satisfied customer. Buy at your own risk. Read the guy's ratings and choose wisely. I did buy a pair of euro-front corner lenses from him and had one go cloudy. I emailed him a year later and he sent me replacments and I was happy as could be. That is my story and I'm sticking to it like rust to a pre-'86 240!
