Door gremlins, 92 200

Hi Janet -

I have a 1986 244GL with similar issure, though i still get in/out of the proper door.

I have not gone into the door to work on the problems, but I do expect to find things. (1) The outside scraper moldings get shorter over time, and a hole appears right above the electric locking mechanism. So - there can be some rust/crud clogging up that thing. (2) Most of the other locking mechanisms and linkages are loosely fitted and seldom jam up, except for the outside door handle itself. That's easily removed, cleaned and greased. Another thread for that.

Removing the trim panel with power windows is not difficult. The armrest must be unscrewed (3 screws) and moved away from the door so the window switch panel can be pushed out sideways. Other than that and the 3 screws, it's the same deal.

Remember to remove the speaker and disconnect the wires - it's bother to discover them still connected at the last minute. BTDT x 2.

Once inside use spray lubricant on everything in sight. I have some Lubriplate in a can that I smear on with a flat tip on window gears and lickage pivot points.

I don't know what the best spray lube is, silicone or lithium. Perhaps another brickster will tell us both.

If you must use the cargo door for entry/exit (1) put the back seat down, (2) wear slacks, (3) park out away from heavy pedestrian traffic if possible. grin smirk.

Good Luck,

Bob
