The designations changed a bit, and kind of lost their meaning on the later models. 'GL' went away for a while, then came back, then went for good. For a time, there was a 'base' 240 without the DL designation (which even lacked a radio!) The 'DL' was the standard model.
As mentioned, the 'GLE' (V6), 'Diesel', 'GLT / Turbo' and 'GT' models all disappeared at one point or another before the '86 makeover, never to return. In '91, an 'SE' model was equipped with wood dash, Scorpius wheels, and other niceties. The 'Classic' appeared in '93 as a run of the last of the 240s - special dash numbering, painted grille surround, Scorpius wheels again.
