the socket can be replaced by itself. cut 1 off a junker, same year as yours. then look into the terminal end. you'll see little openings above the wire end. it's a lock to hold the wire in the receptacle. use a strong, thin tool and push it into opening, push the wire toward you, pry the tool down to unhook the lock and then pull the wire out. good luck, chuck.
