I only sprayed the parts which rotate... and kept the spray away from the connector, as insurance. No special tips... just sprayed/waited, until the crud stopped coming out. If I had been more motivated, I would have hooked up power to the connectors to cycle the motor, but I was happy with getting out as much crud as I did.
