engine does't idle well or at all 700 1989

Before I would suspect the worst. How about the basics? New plugs, distributor cap and rotor. Maybe new wires. Also extreme cold temps, and leaving less than half a tank of gas. Lots of condensation. Can of Dry Heat or similiar product.
