Questions about the different grinds. 140-160

re: "...can usually get B30 cams in about 10 days. 3 stock including the K and 5 performance cams available...."

John. That's great news. I will e-mail you (jparker3@twcny.rr.com, right?)separately to order (it will be from my Volvo164NJ@aol.com e-mail address), but I have a couple of easy questions, and maybe it will benefit others as well to share them here:

Basically, I have to confess that I have only a limited knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks of the different grinds (e.g., I know that a lot of folks the OHC engines like to upgrade to the VX cam that I've heard about, but that's not a choice here), but since you have several varieties to offer, I naturally need to pick which one I want. Can you please advise, as I don't know any of the characteristics of the K that you mentioned, or the others.

Relevent information:
1) this is for a '75 164 with automatic, and it's the 49-state (non-California) version that doesn't have a catalytic converter or the restrictor for leaded gas.
2) I find that it has good acceleration as soon as it hits 3,000 rpm, but is a 'dog' under that, so naturally I'd like to get more acceleration in the lower part of the band without loosing too much (or any, if possible) at the upper half.
3) Another thing I want is to keep the fabulously smooth idle -- one of the reason I love straight sixes (I've got two old M-Bs with I-6s, an '84 2.8 M110 and a '90 3.0 M103) -- so I don't want a cam that will turn it all 'lumpy' like a lot of hot cams tends to do.
4) I'm also going to refinish the head a bit, and this will no doubt up the compression ratio a tad, but I don't want to get into the levels where I have to watch out for ping on high test.
5) Finally, and unfortunately most important, I am subject to emission testing, so I need something that won't raise my emissions too much.

So, would you recommend sticking with the OEM cam, or is there an alternative grind that would give me a little more, considering the above goals?
I appreciate your recommendation, and I'll contact you during the week.

Regards,
Ken
