Good scraper seals -- the ones that scrape the windows when you roll them up and down -- will help keep water out, but not entirely. The drains are there for a purpose; it is by design. Do the plastic thing, and no water will leach into the upholstered panels.

Some of the window channel fits into the body where it's painted -- that's the JCW stuff. Some fits into unpainted chromed columns -- that's the 140 stuff.
