How about the theory that it has more to do with working under the hood than replacing the alternator? Better check the ignition primary wiring at the distributor, the ignition condensor and wiring (if you have points) and ALL THE GROUND WIRING on the car including the battery connections. Although I didn't have the same problem, I just replaced the ground strap from the block to the body on the right side down low. It was hanging on by threads.
I'll presume that you've checked out the charging systems? If it really is the alternator, the brushes might "run in" in time.....
