I picked up an interface box and downloaded the software from odbdiagnostics.com. Cost me about 80 bucks all told. Its not the best out there in terms of what it can do, but it is lightyears ahead of a simple hand held code scanner. There are other pc and pda based systems available as well, but then you are into the 250 and up range not counting the pc or pda cost which I would assume you already have.
Since volvo's are pretty much vanilla in terms of what data can be had through the odb2 port, the system I got works just fine. I can also hook it up to my F150 and read its codes as well though it wont read all the specialized ford codes (will read some) that are available.
