Right -- all of the voltmeter, visual, and other checks are not really difinitive. Mine checked out fine on all of them, yet was still bad. If you have nice volvo mechanics around, they might let you borrow a new or rebuilt one for the 30 seconds it takes to test it in the parking lot.
