Replacing Steering Coupler on 122 120-130

I have a 1967 Volvo 122s that I wanted to install a new steering wheel coupler. When I removed the four bolts and tried to take out the old rubber coupler a wire running through the center hole of the steering shaft prevented it from coming out. Is this wire for the horn? How do I replace the coupler? Thanks in advance.
