air compressor with air tool question 200 1989

Hi Greg:

The important statistic for the compressor is how many cubic feet/minute at at given PSI. Without a storage tank it just won't cut the mustard!

I have a Chinese made compressor that I bought at a Homier traveling tool sale in Port Huron, Michigan (an hour from here). $119 USD for 4.5 hp, 25 gal 110V direct drive motor. I also have inexpensive Chinese copies of the already inexpensive CH entry-level tools sold at places like Building Box and Hope Depot. If I had to do it over again, I would buy the same compressor but I would have splurged and bought a better air impact gun. The rated 250ft/lb peak sometimes doesn't cut it for tight/rusty bolts. Get something that does 400ft/lbs +.

Check out www.homier.com-- you can sign up for e-mail notification of sales if you put in a nearby US zip code. Generally, they don't sell tools for pros, but in many cases the stuff is more than good enough!
