If you aren't worried about overheating, (and so won't need the interior heater as backup), you could bypass the heater core by unplugging the hoses at the firewall and joining them. But knowing your luck lately ...

You're probably wondering "What next?". Just have a toolbox, repair manual, and some other stuff in the car and go for it.
