hood pops open 140-160

I have had a problem with a drain on my battery in my 71' 142E since a week after I bought it. Changed a lot of things like th alternator and the voltage regulator and the problem still persists. In fact even with all the fuses out the amp light is still on, but I digress. That is relevant to my quest because the only way I keep the battery charged is by popping the hood open and spinning the switch (from ipd) every time the car sits for more than a few hours. I guess this has really worn on the hood latch or something because I can not keep the darn thing from popping open at speed, it is weird because I pull it ass hard as I can and the hood with not open but at speed... every 10 minutes, more often if I am on the freeway, the darn thing pops open. Of course the catch keeps it from hitting the windshield but it is really irritating and I hate having to explain to people that despite the fact that the car looks good and runs decent most of the stuff in the car doesn't work (windshield wipers, heater fan, electrical drain, blown speakers, etc.) because it is an old Volvo. So my question is, how can I keep the hood from popping open, is there anyway to adjust the latching mechanism to keep it tighter or could it be something else?
