If the engine is really greasy you want to remedy that because the sudden development of oil and other kinds of leaks need to be noticed and fixed. There are a number of commercial engine degreasers out there, I've heard Simple Green is also good. You need to get a really good stiff brush, and be careful not to get certain the electrical components and distrubutor wet.
