92 240 Turn indicators not working - again!

A couple of months ago the turn indicators suddenly stopped working. I checked the fuse, and it was blown. At that time I also discovered that the car had a bad leak and some of the water was coming through the fuse box. Replaced the fuse, dried out the area and had the windshield replaced which solved the leak problem. I have not put that many miles on the car since the fuse blew, but today the indicators stopped again.

Yesterday I had a new battery installed. Today as the car was on a slight incline and as I was starting to make the left turn I heard what sounded almost like slight creaking from the consul area by the steering wheel, almost like plastic creaking. I have not heard any noises from this car before. Heard it once more a block or two later. When I went to use the indicators I noticed right away that they were not working. Checked the fuse box, fuse was OK, I cleaned off the contacts and pressed slightly just in case they had loosened, but that did not do the trick. Would this be a relay problem? The relay is pretty easily accessible isn't it, at least in my '80 it is. The instrument cluster has been pulled out three times in the last couple of months to work on the temperature guage - that gets expensive. By the way many thanks to the BB and its contributors for helping me solve the car's errant temp guage, after a lot of reading of new and archived posts my guess was that the compensator board was the likely culprit. Mentioned that to the Volvo shop, but first the sensor was replaced, did not solve it, mentioned the cb again but they thought it would be the thermostat so a new one was put in, did not solve it. Was quoted $150 for a new guage as they thought that might be the problem. I finally bought the compensator board from IPD and said, "humor me and put this in." That did the trick! I don't know when, or if those other parts were ever replaced so it is probably not all bad to have new parts there, but it did give me a feeling of satisfaction that in this case, thanks to many of your on the BB, that I had found the answer.
