Ethanol in a gasoline engine S90-V90

I was in Brazil about 10 years ago, at Manaus, a very humid area.
They told me there that since the Brazilian government started requiring
ethanol in motor fuel they could not get a muffler to last more than
6 months. Have you experienced that problem?

Do you notice any performance or mileage difference? Since Ethanol is
already partly oxidized I would expect at least some decrement in both.
