Once again the FAQ helped me solve a problem. This time it was ignition noise on the AM band of the radio. Improper grounding or in this case, no grounding of the radio chassis. Fed a wire from the radio chassis to ground and there is absolutely no static from the engine.

The FAQ really is a piece of work. Thanks Steve!!
