Gregski,

You can buy a very inexpensive 'tire type' A/C pressure gauge that you put on the low side fitting and measure pressures. These are available at most auto chain stores made by interdynamics, some even have a dial on them. Is should read between 25-40 psi with the compressor cycling on/off to keep it in that range.
