too much heat 1800 1973

Possibly the heater control valve isn't shutting off completely. If it's the original one, it's overdue.

I believe those cars are also notorious for soaking heat up through the floor boards. There used to be people that sold insulation kits to add under the carpet - or I think you can buy the insulating material from places like JC Whitney, and cut out your own.
