Engine burning oil 700 1986

Before you sart looking at a rebuild, clean out your crankcase ventilation system. Follow the FAQ's. My 90 760 turbo was eating oil, and cleaning up the PCV system fixed it. It's cheap and relatively easy. (breather box is a bit tough to get to, but not too bad)
