Heater control Valve problems 700

I have a very solid metal version, and i must say it is absolutely reliable! Are the heater hose fittings that come out of the firewall made of the same plastic as the heater valve, or are they made out of some type of metal? My concerns are these nipples cracking and or breaking off upon my replacing the heater hoses?
