Sorry for the late post but here is my two cents:
Since you are having problems one cold starts I would suspect either 1) Air Leaks or 2) Plugged CPR (Control Pressure Regulator).
When dealing with a K-Jet system you have to keep in mind that any air leaks between the Air Flow Sensor Plate & the Intake Valves robs movement from the Air Flow Sensor Plate thus the plunger in the fuel distributor does not move down enough to allow more fuel into the engine. Since the Sensor Plate is controlling the amount of fuel going into the engine making sure that there is no air leaks is paramount to a good running K-Jet engine. This is more important when you have a cold start because of the need of a richer mixture to assist with the cold start and to get the engine up to operating temperature. If you have leaks not only is the air that is leaking in leaning out the mixture but the mixture is lean to begin with if the Sensor Plate is not moving down enough.
My second suspect would be the CPR (Control Pressure Regulator). This device controls the pressure above the plunger in the fuel distributor thus making it easier for the plunger to move down which in turns makes it easier to richen the mixture for cold starts. After so many years of use the tiny holes in the CPR get plugged thus keeping the control pressure above the plunger high, i.e. leaning out the mixture as if the car was already warmed up.
Try your best to find any air leaks and keep in my that when you find on there is one more hiding from you. The CPR cleaning is a little bit more difficult since the CPR is in a very hard spot to remove. But after you do remove the CPR it is fairly straight forward to take apart and to clean up. As soon as In cleaned the CPR on both of my 79's they idle PERFECT when cold and PERFECT when warm. Beside the air leaks and CPR cleaning I like the K-Jet System because of it's simplicity. I'm sure you will be happy with your results. Best Of Luck!!!

Sincerely,
