Update on volvo life and life... 140-160 1968

Hey Kyle,
thanks for the update! Glad you got her on the road again...

So...you have no first gear, eh? Be gentle! If you have the same problem I did in my 1800, it is possible you coudl lose other gears too. In my case, my transmission was pretty noisy. One day delivering pizza I was pretty frustrated and dropped the clutch in 1st at right about redline... crunch. No more first.

Problem turned out to be bad (missing) needle bearings on the layshaft nearest first gear, such that the laygear cluster was riding a small distance away from the output shaft gear it matched up with...

If I had let it go though, that laygear could have gound its way farther and farther away, and I eventually would have lost all gears taht go though the laygear....

As it is, I'm left with a nice candle stick :-)

-Matt
