Thanks for the help guys - much appreciated! I think I will try and scratch some of the green layer off and solder over the crack. I checked out the turbobricks site and got some good info from that post but I think that guy has gone a couple steps further than I was planning to!

Matt - thanks for the link to your site. Very informative. You are right, it is the GT cluster that I have. Although my tacho has 'Volvo Rallye' written on it so I think mine was probably put together from a few different ones.

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions.
