If the computer thinks the engine is cold because of a faulty coolant temp sensor then it will adjust the mixture to be too rich. The CTS is cheap - less than $25 and fairly easy to replace. The other thing that might be a problem is the O2 sensor - how old is it? Also easy and cheap to replace.
